Independent FinOps advisory and education
Ben de Mora
I work with senior engineering and finance leaders at large organisations that are past the tooling-and-dashboards stage of FinOps, and now need to talk about value, ownership, accountability, and where the discipline sits in the rest of the business.
I wrote the FinOps Foundation’s Maturity Assessment methodology, used by AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure, or by derivatives of it, to evaluate customer FinOps practice. I co-created the FinOps Certified Professional certification.
- 3,000+ Practitioners trained 95 per cent exam pass rate, sustained since 2019.
- USD 100m Cloud spend avoided Cumulative, contributed to across client engagements in financial services, media, technology, and the public sector.
- 20+ Years in practice Data centre engineering through to cloud economics.
What I do
Four ways to work with me. All four suit organisations that already have a FinOps practice, formal or informal, and are looking past tooling towards value, operating model, and accountability.
Advisory
Senior one-to-one advisory by the hour. You bring a specific problem: operating model design, a stuck implementation, an executive-level disagreement, a tooling decision nobody internally can settle. I bring two decades of watching the same problems play out in comparable organisations. Booked directly through Calendly, with no long-term commitment.
Book a consultationAssessments
Bespoke FinOps maturity assessments using the methodology I authored. An evidence-based read on where your practice sits against the FinOps Framework, what to do next, and what each option costs you. Single-document or multi-report, scoped to fit federated organisations or single-function teams.
Enquire about an assessmentSpeaking
Conference keynotes, panels, and corporate briefings on FinOps practice, cloud unit economics, and the cultural shifts both require. Built around a thesis, drawn from experience, pitched at audiences who already know what FinOps is. I am a practitioner, not a vendor in disguise.
Book me to speakTeaching
Custom enablement and workshops for FinOps teams, their finance partners, and engineering leadership. Four standard shapes, each one rebuilt around your cloud estate, your maturity, and the people actually in the room. Every one starts with a free scoping call, including the bespoke ones.

The practice is technology economics: public cloud, SaaS, licensing, on-premises, and AI workload cost. FinOps is the part of it most people arrive looking for.
Mostly senior leaders at large organisations: heads of FinOps and cloud cost, VPs of engineering, CTOs, CFOs, and the finance and engineering partners trying to bridge the two. Sectors include financial services, media, technology, and the public sector. Engagements are remote by default, and on site where the format genuinely benefits from it, such as keynotes, executive workshops, and assessment interviews.

Before the bill comes due: reading enterprise AI through a FinOps lens
Enterprise AI is bought on two weakening assumptions: that subsidised prices hold, and that AI-driven layoffs are cheap to undo. Cloud is the dress rehearsal.

Beyond the cloud bill: FinOps scope expansion and the quiet importance of FOCUS
FinOps in 2026 spans SaaS, licensing, private cloud, data centre, and AI. The most consequential development is not AI cost management. It is FOCUS.
If your organisation is past the FinOps tooling stage and now grappling with value, ownership, and culture, I’d like to hear from you.
